1) We manufacture the SKULL SHIRTS
in Bali, Indonesia. We start with a 100 meter bolt of undyed woven
rayon.
2) The fabric is taken to the batik factory for dyeing.
3) Batik is an ancient "resist dye" method of dyeing. This
means that something comes between the fabric and the dye to prevent the dye
adhering.
4) A copper batik stamp, in the form of a
SKULL, is dipped in hot wax and stamped on
the white fabric.
5) The fabric is put in enormous vats and dyed black.
6) The black fabric is dried outside on 100 meter long drying racks.
7) The wax is removed using a heat roller. Because the dye
cannot penetrate the wax, the process leaves perfect white
SKULLS on the black background.
8) The shirts are cut and sewn to our specifications by one of
Bali's finest tailors. We have been doing business with him for 19 years.
9) The
SKULLS, packed
comfortably in boxes, make their way by plane to Seattle and Bainbridge Island,
to await YOU, their new owners.
